invision.rip
once upon a time there was a cool prototyping platform called invisionapp that i used for a bunch of projects and i fell in love with the workflow they brought to web collaboration but then it died. i just finished my mvp that i've been slowly building off and on for a couple months now.
it was a pretty quick trip to getting the barebones running in localhost but i ran into issues with the deployment, trying to deploy to replit without understanding how my app worked or how the deployment needed to be configured was quite the roadblock.
it was only after outgrowing replit through building other projects, and moving most of my projects to a coolify powered server that lets me deploy and manage everything in one place without costs spiraling out of control, that i figured out how to get this project running online.
the UX is still rough and the hotspots, versioning, and collaboration features all have a lot of room for polish, and there is no account management or user level to speak of in the app yet.
up to this point i've been building this with the intention of it being an internal tool i use for myself and with my team at work but i feel like it's reaching the point where it's going to be worth th effort to properly polish and release this to the world.
the biggest breakthrough happened today where i finally started the recreation of the highlight feature; the invisionapp smart capture browser plugin, which as of 20 minutes ago i have the foundation working in my deployment 🫨!
the screenshot tool is far from perfect, that's proven to be the most challenging part. figuring out how to capture full page seamless screenshots reliably isn't something claude just knows how to do lol. i'm confident i'll get it figured out eventually. even if it means waiting for claude 4.0 MAX in cursor 😂
in the meantime, i really need to spend some time writing about all the cool shit i've been up to.. like getting a puppy.. creating my own lightweight analytics platform so that i can abandon GA4 and posthog for my personal projects, and so much more. hard to slow down and write about the things i'm building cause i can't stop building! 🤷♂️
